Nishi Izu Shio Katsuo Study Workshop

Introduction of the Enrolled Organizations

We started a group of volunteer members enthusiastic about attracting tourists to Nishi-Izu Town and revitalizing the town with “ShioKatsuo(salted bonito),” a traditional preserved food of Nishi-Izu Town. “Nishi Izu Shio Katsuo Udon” is soupless udon noodles with toppings of salted bonito flakes, chopped Chinese leeks, shaved dried bonito, and seasoned with soy sauce.

Introduction of the Cities and Towns

Nishi Izu Town is in the national park where you can find out Geosites in various places. At the Dogashima Island spot, visitors in the sightseeing boat see the beautiful islands and Tensoudou Sea Cave, formed by wave erosion on coastal cliffs. The sunlight shining into the cave is mysterious. Sanshiro Island makes it accessible at low tide, and they call it “the Sea Road” caused of the Tombolo phenomenon. On the Sea Road, you can play and see many sea creatures. The sunset in Nishi Izu Town is the most beautiful in Japan! The sun setting in the west ocean turns the place gold and inspires your trip dramatically.
